Jeremy & I signed a lease on an apartment today!
First off, let me say that it is is a short lease (4-6 months), which will not effect our plans of leaving, which also means we are not trying to settle down here by any means. We had just realized that we were paying too much for such a little space (right now we are living in a little mobile home, which you can see here), especially when we thought internet would be included (but we ended up getting our own because their’s was too slow) and we barely get to have hot showers (sometimes Jeremy even showers at the bathrooms/showers they provide at the campground… I tried it once, but cried too much so I won’t do it again–long story!). So, needless to say, we started looking a few days ago and found a decent place for much cheaper than what we are currently paying. We have the keys (yay!) and signed the lease this afternoon.
Side note: Can I tell you a story? So just as Jeremy closed his door as we were at the landlord’s house to sign the lease, I realized the keys were still in the ignition–too late. The car was off, thankfully, but we were locked out. So I had Jeremy go inside and handle the lease and I called AAA, since I have a gold card. Did you know that they will only help you out four times a year? Well, I didn’t know that. So after 20 minutes of trying to get them to help me anyways, I decided to go through with Jeremy’s first idea of calling his mom, asking her to pick up our extra set of keys from our home and having her drive them to us, but first I had to call the owners of the RV park because they had an extra key for our home so that she could even get in to get our car keys. I didn’t want to do this, because his mom already had helped us out a lot today between emotional and financial things (it’s been a rough day for the both of us), and she was already watching Penny who was playing with her dog. But I called her and she was willing to help. Unfortunately after making yet another phone call, I learned that the owners of the RV park were not there at the time. Jeremy’s mom was so helpful and decided to call and pay for a locksmith to come get us. She said they told her it would take 20 minutes. 20 minutes later I called the locksmith company and they told me the man would be there in a half hour. Ugh. We were both standing outside in the cold night, our car awkwardly parked in our new landlord’s driveway. So we waited. And waited. And I got a call from the driver himself, telling us that he was 20 minutes away. 25 minutes later he arrived to us waving our arms to flag him down. He got out and Jeremy asked him about a discount for the wait, and the man called his boss and was declined. We had Jeremy’s mom on the phone as well, as she was set to give the payment information over the phone. Jeremy was a-talking, like his normal self. He is quite the talker, and with us both having a rough day he was really talking. Apparently, this offended the man, who said he had to make a phone call to his boss, got in the car and drove off! Can you believe? After some phone calls from me and Jeremy’s mom to the office, he came back and opened our door. I’m still in shock that he actually left after us waiting over an hour in the cold. So here is the moral of the story : DO NOT USE POP-A-LOCK SERVICES!! (I am writing a very bad review for them in the morning!)
Sorry for the rant, it only happened a few hours ago and it still has me fuming, which rarely happens! Anyways, we are VERY excited about our new apartment. Although we have the keys, the electricity won’t be turned on until Tuesday and the only furniture we have is a couch that the landlord is letting us have from another apartment of her’s that we looked at. I am so thrilled to have a real place to decorate! Our apartment hunting and the whole situation has backed me up a bit on here and finishing my diy project going on, but I started searching around the internet at some of my favorite blogs to find some decorating inspiration!
